Thursday's my Friday

I did crazy things to try to get back to a normal schedule like force myself to go to bed - at 3AM - after Ken had been over last night. This after an all-nighter Tuesday night and then sleeping through the day and waking up at around 6PM.

I did sleep OK though and was awake at 9AM ready to do things. I was out the door at about 9:30. I dropped off some books at the Japantown little free library, went to the bank, then over to Whole Foods to lock up the bike and buy a bottle of coffee and get some cash back.

I waited for the bus - the bus stop is right there, it's really convenient - as was a bit put off that a cop SUV and then another cop SUV pulled up and parked there. The bus pulled in a bit before the stop to avoid the cop cars, and I hopped on. The driver and a lady were talking about the cop cars and I remembered that, going in to Whole Foods, I'd heard a lady talking with the customer service guy about someone harming himself or others. That explains the cops; another crazy.

Then the lady was questioning the driver about whether we were in Santa Clara yet, and I took over talking with her. She used to go to Crema long ago, and I explained how they'd moved and pointed out how to find it - look for the Motel 6 and the O'Reilleys and it's right after that. The bus started to turn on Race st. and I realized I was on the wrong bus. The driver let me off at the corner "because the next stop is 'way down there" so that was nice of him.

I waited for the bus there by the bike shop, which was not uninteresting as there was a schizophrenic guy wandering around and looking scary and doing this 3 Stooges thing of whacking himself on the head repeatedly. He looked like he was waiting for the bus but when the bus came, he didn't get on. I did, and said out loud, "Bye-bye, zombie" when I sat down.

I rode down to Sunnyvale and among other things, checked out Dick's Sporting Goods where I got a Carhartt fluorescent yellow knit cap for $15 and then went to Ross and got a pair of sweat pants for about the same.

The forecast was "chance of rain, then rain" and I decided I'd go around and do things today, saving a shipping trip for tomorrow when it's supposed to be drier.

I got on a #522 bus coming back, walked back to Whole Foods to collect my bike, and rode by Diridon Station because I had a craving for train station popcorn. But the little store in there was closed.

I rode down to Walmart and got some things there like a big package of TP. But they're still out of rubbing alcohol. Next was the Amazon place for bubble mailers, then I stopped by the little bodega where I know I can get rubbing alcohol, it's something you have to know to ask for. It's only 2X what it normally costs but at least I can get it. So I got a couple bottles of that for $12.

Then Nijiya, where I got all kinds of things. I talked a bit with the guys there, about bike locks and places to watch out for that look nice but are actually high-crime, and also they noted that all their late-in-the-day customers were coming in early today and I said, "Well, it's going to rain later" which kind of surprised them and I said somehow I'm always the go-to guy to ask about the weather because I had to keep track of it, getting around by bike. That's what led to talking about places bikes might get stolen etc.

It was pretty funny, too, because right around the corner the cops had a guy pulled over and I rode by just as they were putting cuffs on him. His SUV was there with the doors open and it was cluttered, seat split open, etc. So  I said out loud, "That's what you get for having a dirty car". I hope the cops got a laugh out of that.

I think it really only warmed up to the high 50s, if that, and it kept looking like it'd rain but I guess the rain will be later tonight.

The once and future cornet

The reason I dug the Connstellation out and replaced the errant screw and put in new water key corks is that last week I'd gone by Park...
