Sun for a while

I've been doing well with changing my schedule to a more normal one. I kind of run out of gas around 11PM though, then am awake at 7AM. That's suspiciously close to the schedule I followed when I was a young adult, going to various jobs. It's also a good Hawaii schedule, as the local modus operandi is to get up early, get stuff done, take it easy around the middle the of day, do more stuff in late afternoon to early evening when it's cooler, then go to be relatively early.

It should be sunny this week, and I'm glad because we sure got enough rain for a while. The parking lot Christmas party was very quiet, and yesterday, in the rain, they packed it all up and now things are normal. So as I said, it was probably some Mormon-y version, where they read their own weird Bible all about how if you're white enough (no kidding!) you get your own planet to preside over in the afterlife. (They actually tell gullible nonwhites that if they become more "holy" their skin will lighten.)

I also finished the load of laundry I had soaking for so long. My drainer-bucket idea isn't very good, and my hands had healed so I could just wring the clothes out. It's good for wrist strength anyway.

I finishing reading The Yearling which is a very good book. I used to just devour books, and although I enjoyed this one I had to force myself to finish it - there was always something to check on the internet. Alienation from books and this crazy night-owl schedule, technology is good, why?

Ideally, I need to have a hard rule to go to bed at 1AM. Ken never stays later than that. That would have me getting up at 9AM, which is early enough. Without Ken in the equation, I could be pretty happy going to bed at 10PM and up at 6 or 7. When I'm back in Hawaii, if I rent a room, lights-out is generally considered to be 10PM if I end up in a place that's strict about that.

I'd not want to be out busking in Waikiki late at night, and in fact when I was last there I saw a Black gal panhandling in front of the Eggs & Things at something like 9 or 10AM and she was making bankity-bank. For some reason that place is big with Japanese tourists and also anyone coming from the US mainland will be wide-awake at that time in Hawaii.

If I can keep my schedule early, I can get into the wonderful world of busking at lunch hours and farmer's markets. Eentsy Weentsy spider and all that ...

It's going to go down into the 20s maybe this week, overnight. Well below freezing. I remember a week like this in Sunnyvale. Vine-type plants died, and I found the gloves my older sister had sent me from Italy to be very useful. I guess we're having a real winter this time around. Even in the middle of the day it's only warming up to the 50s.

I was even telling Ken that it may be that busking is very seasonal here - just like when I lived in Gilroy and didn't work, just hunkered down, from November 1 until April 1. Although if summer before last was any indication, it's more like October 1 to April 1, so 6 months busking and 6 months not.

Hawaii's not like that, and in fact winter brings a bit higher grade of tourist, the kind who stay for a weeks or a month or sometimes more, where the summer people take these weird budget short vacations, "3 days 2 nights!" etc.

The once and future cornet

The reason I dug the Connstellation out and replaced the errant screw and put in new water key corks is that last week I'd gone by Park...
