Last night I just drank up the rest of the watery beer I had around the place and I'm not sure what time I went to bed but I woke up at something like 6AM perfectly awake, and had to make myself go back to sleep until about noon.
I had my beloved chicory coffee and left here at about 1. I just dropped off trash and donated the $10 bottle of "Ecological" fabric softener to the Japantown little free library, as I've got some real stuff and a source for it - the dollar store.
My primary reason for going out was to drop off my donation towards the Dharma Center the temple is building, a thing I'll never see myself, as I'll be back home.
I went into Nijiya and spent about $40 on a nice tempura bento, some kazunoku konbu which is herring eggs on seaweed, and a 24-pack of Kirin Ichiban beer since the Asahi stuff, according to the guy at the checkout, wasn't on sale any more (this turn out to not be true).
A 24-pack is heavy to carry but I had a plan - I cut the big box in half, very carefully, and put each half in one cloth Whole Foods bag.
I got back and tried the kazunoko konbu and Wowwwww was it salty! So I soaked it in 2 changes of cold water and then it was ... OK I guess. "Outdoor Chef Life" on YouTube raves about it, and he has a nice episode where he gathers it here in the bay, but it might taste a ton better when gathered fresh. At least I tried it.
Uni's the same. I got some uni from the store and tried it and it was OK I guess. But in Hawaii there are 5 types of sea urchins I can think of right off, and going to the beach there is as simple as a walk, with maybe a bus ride.
Starting at about 3 this afternoon the little weather thing on my computer started saying "sleet off and on" and it's really dark outside for being still mid-afternoon.
