99 Houses

Yesterday I packed 4 large packages and took them to FedEx, leaving here around 4. It was already too late, as during the cold season I want to do my mailing runs early enough that I'm not out in the dark *and* cold. I actually did a big loop, going to the Filipino market first and spending just under $20, then dropping the boxes off at FedEx, then getting back here.

I'd already photo'd 20 things so it was fairly easy to get 'em listed on Ebay.

Then I guess it was movie night because I watched some 90s thing called "The Saint Of" something, about two homeless guys, a new guy who'd lost his subsidized apartment and is clueless, both about how to survive as "a homeless" and also schizophrenic, not floridly so but actually how most schizophrenics are, "odd" and not able to get along in society well. The other guy was an old pro who'd served in Viet Nam. The movie was on about a par with "Premium Rush" or "Cowboys And Aliens", B-movies but worth to be watched once anyway.

The other one was "99 Houses" by the same guy who did "White Tiger" and it was pretty good - it was about the aftermath of the 2008 crash, and gave a pretty good feel for the times. No jobs to be had, anywhere, "cash for keys" deals to keep evicted people from trashing their house on their way out, the conniving and scams and desperation.

I practiced a bit, realizing it's been several days. I just did the tone exercise, but noticed I'm getting a pretty good tone and I'm having less trouble with the flute moving around in my hands. One thing that's very different from trumpet is the breathing. In trumpet, it's possible to breathe in too much air, and you end up hyperventilating and feeling weird and it just kind of messes you up. Flute's more about volume where trumpet's about pressure, and I've come to think that flute's a lot healthier.

The once and future cornet

The reason I dug the Connstellation out and replaced the errant screw and put in new water key corks is that last week I'd gone by Park...
