79th day sober. I was up a bit past 3, and had practiced last night. I don't get it; I can have trouble hitting F at the top of the staff or the G right above it, and then hit it easily and clearly. It's very inconsistent. I guess the times I can hit those notes clearly show that I'm doing things right at least some of the time.
I logged onto The Trumpet Herald to see if they had a bunch of non-copyrighted music but they don't - I had them mixed up with one of the ukulele sites which does in fact have a huge list of music to make use of, as long as you're a ukulele player I guess.
I read through some of the posts and one guy, "bflatman", said he heard it took 10,000 hours to get good at something, so he decided to take it on. He'd walk downtown, practicing all the way, busk for a few hours, then practice while walking home. It amounted to 5 hours a day. With rests between playing, he says. He didn't have a job to distract him, and the busking paid so he didn't need one. After about 6 months he was being asked to join bands.
I sure can't do anything like that as long as I'm working for Ken here. I might be getting in as much as 8 or 10 hours a week as things stand now.
