I was up late as usual futzing around. I watched a movie called "Goodnight Mr. Tom" which I learned about on r/casualUK - it seems the Brits all watched this or read the book, which is even more brutal, around middle-school age. Tough bunch, those Brits.
I did some practice, and am having fun with the new note, F#. The exercises actually sound pretty good, kind of like music. I get momentary glimpses from time to time of how good my tone can be someday.
I went to bed at 8AM and woke up around noon, realized I needed about 4 hours' more sleep, and woke up again at about 3:45.
It's been getting quite cold at night, down close to freezing. Even so, at about 5AM I heard a sound outside and there went two zombies, one on a (stolen) electric rental bike and one on foot, with a huge bag of plastic bottles and cans balanced on its undead shoulders. It was 34 degrees out there.
The only way I can figure to take something like a real day or days off, is to get good enough at flute to do what I'd considered doing with trumpet, which is to go up to the city and play, probably making at least most of the cost of a hotel room, stay over, play some more the next day, etc. There are hotels up there that are affordable because parking is extra or the parking situation is bad and for me that's fine since I don't have a car.
This is around the time of year I'll be leaving in 2024. I can stick around just long enough to vote in the 2024 election and then leave before the big Thanksgiving rush.
