I practiced last night and it's funny how a couple of the exercises that were tricky the time before, were strangely easy now. The book always has new things to learn with just about every exercise, and the latest is where there's one way to play the end the 1st time around and a different way the 2nd time.
I don't have enough notes yet to play much in the way of actual songs. On trumpet it's pretty easy to get a fingering chart and learn a chromatic scale, although one's range will be very limited and as I've learned, may be very limited for years on-end. With flute, range is not much of a problem at least if one has played trumpet for years on end, but I feel it's best to stick to what the book teaches.
I have new neighbors. Since the crash of '08 children growing up in parking lots has been a thing, and last night in the wee hours I heard a sound and looked at the video camera screen. It was a father, two kids one being maybe 10 and the other probably 7 or so, and a dog. They were just walking around, then walked back around to an enclosed trailer that has been here for months, maybe over a year. That trailer and a red pickup truck have been a fixture, never moving, always here. Earlier I'd seen the truck pull in, pulling the trailer and I was surprised they'd been gone.
I saw this small family go into the trailer and get things, and take a large suitcase into the building so I guess they're "camping out" either in the building or in the trailer, in which case all I can say is, brrr. I woke up at almost 4 and my computer still showed the temperature when I'd gone to sleep at about 7AM - 38 degrees which is about 3 degrees C.
I'd gone to sleep to the sound of the kids frolicking outside in this temperature, probably getting a little air and walking the dog. They look like normal people, not druggies/zombies. Maybe a marriage on the rocks and the guy's got the kids and dog for "the holiday" (Thanksgiving) and he's told the other half some cock-and-bull story about having a hotel room, but really he's got his truck, his trailer, and the shop he works out of. Or maybe they've lost their place to live because of capitalism and he's been keeping the truck and trailer handy for when the time came. In any case I wish them well - if he's got a job he'll be all right.
Since my computer temperature thing stayed on 38 degrees for so long at 4PM I decided, Fuck this, I'm not going out in cold like that. It's actually 61 right now at 5PM but dropping fast. And I've already decided I'm not going out.
I need to change my schedule where I've got things all packed and ready to take off like a shot during the warmest part of the day, anywhere from 1-3 PM, maybe as late as 4, to get the packages sent and get back in before it's really cold.
I'm also thinking, Thursday's Thanksgiving so everything will be closed (except places like the casino where I might go for a T'giving dinner) and that might bollix my schedule up enough that I don't visit the bank until next week. This is all OK as I'm a good saver these days.
