400 janky .22's

I woke up at 2:30, which is later than I wanted to. I wanted to get up at about 1. I cleaned up and shaved and all that, and got on the bike. My first two stops were the blessing boxes on 6th and 5th to drop off bags of "longan" which is a fruit kind of like a lychee, which I'd gotten behind H Mart. They were fine, but the flavor is a bit sweet and perfume-y for me. Since longan sells for almost $7 a lb in Nijiya, I think people will know what it is and use it.

Then I steamed on down to Big-5 and locked up the bike and went over to Wal-Mart to pick up zipper bags and got a Starbucks "Double Shot". I went back out to the bike to put the bags away and drink the Double Shot, and as I was finishing that, a scumsucker came up with a bike, trailer with wheelchair wheels, and a pit bull. The guy looked like me missed plenty of showers, but seems as concerned about his stuff as I was about mine, and we both went into Big-5.

A guy was picking up a .22 rifle and "my" guy was training a trainee in this process, and Mr. Scumsucker somehow got served first but that was OK since the rifle guy, he, and I ended up talking about the "good old days" when you could pick up guns at the swap meet  or just about anywhere. The scumsucker bought Coleman fuel, some crossbow bolts, and a set of scope rings, which he ended up leaving there by mistake. As I was being served, I told "my" guy that if I see him I'll tell him he left his scope rings.

I bought what .22 I could, ending up with two 50-round boxes of CCI "Copper 22" which are interesting, light little bullets that are high velocity, over 1800 fps, plus a box os 100 of my usual CCI hollowpoints, plus a 100 box each of Winchester hollow points and solids. That about cleaned them out except for some "555" boxes of really shitty Winchester .22's while will probably be bought up next time I'm by. I also got another, their last, Ruger 10/22 magazine.

This all cost a fair amount of money but right now I value the ammo and the extra mag more than about $80 in money.

When I went out I planned to ride along the back of the complex, hoping to find the guy and tell him about his scope rings, but he came riding up to the front of Big-5 and I told him about his scope rings and he said it's why he came back.

One thing Big-5 didn't have was these Crosman pellets that many experimenters have verified on YouTube work with ramset blanks. So I went onto Amazon just now and ordered some. Prices for everything are skyrocketing, so it's "buy now or cry later". I want to get some grey (lowest power) blanks from HILTI to go with them.

On my way back, I figured I'd stop at TAK Market and get some rubbing alcohol from them but they were out. I stopped in front of a house on 2nd and Jackson that has a juniper bush heavy with berries, and picked some juniper berries for Ken, because we'd discussed making a non-alcoholic gin and tonic using tonic water and juniper berries.

Then I went to Nijiya and got a bunch of things including treating myself to a nice small bowl because I'd broken the one I had, that I used all the time. This one's about the same size and has

On the way back I got some basil from the 10th street dumpster. I got back in here and buttoned up, had some fried fish I'd picked up at Nijiya, and looked over the .22's I'd bought. 400 rounds, not bad. The little copper ones look interesting - they're a much lighter projectile made of copper powder held together by epoxy or something, "composite" they call it.

In any case I have 400 of the Crosman pellets coming in and will have 400 of the ramset blanks as early as tomorrow if I can get over to Hilti before they close at 3.

Cold and foggy Friday

I woke up around 11, and even around noon it's foggy and dark.  I should mention that "dead internet theory", the theory that...
