Workers' Day

The guy came by to pick up his two (heavy) power supplies at 11;30, waking me up with a couple of not-too-loud knocks on the door. I was out of bed in a flash, and opened the door to see him walking away, called out to him, then he came back and got 'em. Little old Korean guy about my size, and took each of those heavy buggers in a hand and was outta here.

I went back to bed until about 3:30. I finally got up had coffee etc., gave out positive feedbacks assuming Ken's delivered the packages by now since he said he'd do it on his way in to his day job, and looked around on Reddit for signs of anything going on downtown like parades etc.

There isn't anything, and the most solid thing going on seems to be that people are staying home from jobs, refraining from buying anything, and so on rather than overt parades with red flags etc. Considering that the Fascists are coming out of the woodwork lately, this might be best for now.

It's funny that the day after Heather Heyer was murdered, I went right down to Big-5 and got myself a rifle and eventually amassed 1000 rounds of the ammo that shooters agree groups and functions best in this rifle, with some kind of idea in mind that there might be Nazis marching up my street. That never happened, and I was actually considering selling the rifle in part of trimming down on stuff I don't need, and here comes this pandemic. Now I'm glad I got the thing - I can always sell it later if things don't get wild.

I looked at the light rail schedule to see if I could just walk out, get on a train downtown and back, and thus not have to watch the bike, lock/unlock the bike, etc. But they're on a really pared-down schedule that stops at 7PM, and not even taking fares - really emphasizing it's for necessary trips only. My going downtown to play my cornet is not a necessary trip. And in keeping with not crossing a picket line by buying anything or conducting any business, I can't justify the trip by going to the ATM at the bank or picking up Amazon items.

So stay in it is.

I cooked my bacon and eggs and then started in on some practice. I did a combination of Irons exercises and "good things to play downtown to raise people's spirits" and about 10:30 I heard what sounded like Ken's truck but a lot quieter, and it pulled right up in front so I opened up the door and it was Ken. He was bringing back the FedEx box I'd given him yesterday because according to him, FedEx had "closed early or something" maybe its workers were in on the May 1 strike in which case good for them. And he handed me an envelope - "You've been stimulated!" he said. It was the $1200 check. So that's rather nice.

We hung out and talked a bit; he'd gotten new tires for his truck and we talked about costs, his new tires and tax and installation and balancing, disposal fee etc came to a thousand bucks, and I talked about my good fortune having a pair of rather good bicycle tires on the way for a mere $70, but that I remember some car tires being $35 apiece. I have a feeling the mechanics at the tire place sneakily fixed Ken's muffler too or something because his truck's a lot quieter. So we shot the bull a bit and then he was off for home.

I got back to my practice, and when I was done I observed the parking lot crackheads had a fun game going, of doing some kind of "Chinese fire drill" routine, circling around and around their bum cars. I guess anything's entertaining when you're high as a kite. I cooked up a delicious miso soup featuring, this time, hot dog slices.

Cold and foggy Friday

I woke up around 11, and even around noon it's foggy and dark.  I should mention that "dead internet theory", the theory that...
