I actually had something like a day off yesterday. I got plenty of practice in, watched a movie about the Mt. Everest "disaster" of 1996, finished my J. G. Ballard book and started in one one called "The Violinist's Thumb" about genetics which is surprisingly good.
There are plenty of exceptions, like finding a good book on the internet or a good movie (like Empire Of The Sun or even one called Mud which I greatly enjoyed) but in general, books kick the internet's ass. I used to read books all the time. The internet's dumbed me down to the point where I have to force myself to read books which is a very strange thing for me as for almost all of my life, books were a treat.
I woke up at almost 4, did some push-ups (more than the last time, I'm getting there) and took off at a bit after 5. I went down First Street to find the County building that has some exercise stuff set up on the lawn in front. Lo and behold the exercise stuff was there, and I did my pathetic little chin-up game. Pretty awful but it was awful years and years ago when I started doing them and eventually got myself quite fit by staying with exercises like this and also running.
And no one bugged me. The trouble with the exercise stuff in St. James Park is the drug dealers start zeroing in right away and it's not possible to exercise in peace. Same goes for the park that's on Hedding between 6th and 7th.
I rode over to the Amazon place, stopping by the 7-11 across the street from it first to drop off a bunch of ramen noodles which I package up again after keeping the spice packets. I used to eat the dry noodles all the time as a snack, and that 7-11 being home to some of the most desperate druggies in the city, I'm sure they'll be found and appreciated. I only got about 6 bubble mailers at the Amazon place but hey it's better than nothing.
I swung back around to Japantown and got things, then, noticing how it was kind of a nice night, went back in for two hard boiled eggs and a can of black coffee and ate those out front, people-watching. There were a lot of people out and around for a Sunday night so I asked a couple, and they said there'd been a marathon earlier that day. So I guess people were still hepped up from that.
Plus the Ethiopians were holding some kind of a banquet around the corner so there were lots of people dressed in lacy frilly shawls that looked neat blowing around in the wind and such festive clothes.
I rode on home. It's getting colder at night now. As for downtown, other than Japantown being more active than usual, it was kind of the same old, same old. Zombies all over the place of course - staggering, shuffling, gibbering. There was even what appeared to be a zombess on a bike, no lights of course, coming my way as I got close to here, so I ducked in my little sneaky route through the armored car place's parking lot and into this complex that way - lots of cameras along that route. It didn't follow.
There really needs to be a "no kill shelter" for these derelicts. 3 hots and a cot, free junk food so Yum! Brands etc will be on board, and under (theoretically) a doctor's supervision, free drugs of the zombies' choice. Call it a Happy Fun Camp. They'll go in, and never want to leave. All they want in life is to stay blasted on drugs and eat just enough food that's easy to chew with rotting/no teeth to stay alive to take more drugs, so why not just give them what they want in life in a controlled setting? The taxpayer will save a ton of money and crime will go way down. There can even be an Adopt-A-Zombie program if someone wants one as a pet, but if it ends up on the street again, back into the camp it goes.
Today's freebee: some of those Okinawan purple potatoes.
My snack once I was home was some "Nijiya Farm Organic" cucumbers. For some reason, the organic ones were half the price of the non-organic ones; of course they had a lot of flaws and would not look as good on a sushi platter. Tasty, though.
