344th day sober. I practiced last night but for some reason I was set way back - it was a struggle to reach even the top of the staff. All I can think is I was over-doing it a night or two ago, and I was tired from all the packing and shipping I've been doing.
I went to bed around 7AM so I slept until noon, woke up, went back to sleep until 3, then got up. After coffee and all that I got to work packing some other FedEx things, and finally loaded the bike and trailer up with the big box and 4 smaller ones.
On the ride to FedEx, on Brokaw, there was a Black female zombie dressed in the usual random zombie clothes and what appeared to be bikini bottoms, striding right along, in the bike lane. Why, when there was a wide sidewalk right there with no one else on it, would only make sense to a zombie. I was glad the lights worked out right that I could get right past, and I didn't even have to walk the hill under the bridge.
Other than this the trip went without a hitch, and I was even able to get the cart right from the FedEx guy who'd just loaded some things into his truck, so it was easy to bring the boxes in. Then I went around back and noticed three nice large pieces of foam board, signs actually, and dug those out. There's actually a speaker out there, with horrible quality, through which someone said I "can't" loiter in the loading area and "must leave immediately". I said I was just getting out of there, and as I was just loading the third onto the trailer, I did. What a laugh! After bringing maybe $200 worth of business in the front, getting yelled at in the back. It was that there were three signs that made me take so long, anyway. Usually I'm really quick.
I found various other packing material odds and ends on my route back, then dropped off the bike trailer and headed back out without it to H Mart. Ken had given me $20 to buy him beef-flavored instant ramen, and I got their last 9 packages of Sopporo Ichiban beef flavor plus a five-pack each of two other beef flavors. I also got a lot of stuff for myself. When I had the bike all loaded up I even called Ken to tell him I'd have the ramen for him at the shop if he wanted to pick it up tonight - I was thinking since he had a tooth pulled today, he might want it ASAP. But he was more interested in telling me I screwed up, pricing one thing I listed last night too low because it sold so quickly.
I think Ken's worrying about money lately because if you're a true Suburbian(tm) there is never, ever, enough. Guys like him will get really hard-nosed about skimping on little things and then turn around and spend $50 having a $10 bouquet delivered to their wife because they had a tiff. And somehow "saving" on cars meant trading in one that was all paid for, low miles and very functional in terms of roominess, for a new SUV they'll have to make payments on.
I even gave Ken a bit of a lecture on how instant ramen isn't very healthy, but it doesn't matter, he wants it anyway. And again that's more expense, not only for the ramen but the further he drives himself into diabetes and high blood pressure, the more expensive insulin he needs, the more doctor's visits, and so on. I never shopped in H Mart's ramen aisle before and it's amazing. They have flavors I never heard of like beef and sauerkraut and cheese. The stuff is really horrible for a person, but what a way to go.
