Sunnyvale busking

345th day sober. Last night I got ten things ready to list but didn't list them, packed a few more things that are small and can be taken to the post office downtown, and did some practice. Despite my having so much trouble the night before, I was right back to being able to play high notes so I have to assume I was just tired.

I went to sleep at around 6:30AM, and woke up around noon, told myself I could sleep some more, and woke up again at 1:30. So I was out the door at 2:30, got to the bank at almost three after dropping packages off at the post office, deposited my check at the bank, and got right over to Whole Foods.

I played for what felt like a half hour, and didn't get a single tip. People were rushing in and out, and hearing me OK but they were just not tipping. I thought I might actually be too early.

So I packed it up, went into Whole Foods and got some baked chicken and fish and zucchini and a can of club soda and ate, and then took the train to Sunnyvale. Train fares are half-price for April too.

I walked over to the Whole Foods there and set up, and at least it's in the shade, I thought. A petition signature gathering lady came along and looked a bit miffed that I was there. She settled down on a bench some distance away. I played for probably a half hour, and the wind was just crazy. I ended up standing with my tip box between my feet so I could hang onto it, and I only got one tip, a $5 from a lady.

I decided to walk around the building, and I found another entrance to Whole Foods that wasn't nearly as windy and had less people going in and out but might be better, I thought. So I set up there and played and made another $5 in $1's.

I then packed up and walked around the Target building which is massive, then over to the train station. I had almost a half-hour before a couple of trains were due, only about 10 minutes apart. I decided this would be the day I busk on Murphy Street, and since it will take 15 or 20 minutes for someone to call te cops and the cops to run me off, it'll be perfect. So I set up at the end nearest the train station and started in.

Amazingly, I got some tips. And the owner of the little Thai place that's been there forever, told me I ought to come back on weekends and lunch times and evenings, and he's got a few guys who can get together with me, etc. That's pretty high praise. I played maybe 20 minutes, making $14, and took off for the 2nd of the two trains.

I got back to Diridon Station and walked back to Whole Foods. It was cold and windy now, but I decided I'd play "a bit" at Whole Foods here to round things out. I played maybe half an hour, and made $14, and got some nice compliments from people too. One guy told me he liked my "Autumn Leaves" and his reference was the version by Cannonball Adderly so I'll have to listen to that. My total for today was $36 and a quarter from some kids on bikes.

Hail to thee, Hoodie Bicycle Silencer Guy

I could not get back to sleep last night after waking up at 4AM, and am pretty sure I lay awake in bed until about 6AM, then slept until 9:...
