I was up at 2, got out of here a bit after 3, and first dropped off packages at the quiet (everything's quiet) post office downtown. Next was the bank, and that's down to a routine now. 1 person at a time, deal with one of the tellers by the door, who takes my check and membership # card to the teller, I get my receipt and that's it for the week. They're going to start closing an hour earlier though, at 4 rather than 5.
I went over to Target and found some things to buy, among them surprisingly some Baker's chocolate and some witch hazel. And they had heavy whipping cream for like $2 each in the size I normally pay $5 or $6 for so I got a couple of those.
I went over to Whole Foods and locked up the bike, and walked up to CVS where I got some vitamins, some Blistex cream in the little tubes and their "Deep Renewal" sticks which are heavier and greasier then the cream but really do wonders for janky lips. I'd covered enough that I decided to skip Whole Foods this trip and went next over to Dai Thanh, which is closed for a few days to "improve" their store in keeping with the new health guidelines.
I rode home, stopping at Nijiya where I was able to eggs, other odds and ends, and got a small bento. I got back here (strong cold wind, although sunny, which has me slowed down) and put some of the things away, and ate the bento, thinking about what I may have missed. Coffee, it turns out. Plus I'd buy other things to squirrel away...
So I set out again for 99 Ranch but at the sight of the line outside, decided I'd not go in, and went to H Mart which also had a line, but the way it's working now, the long lines are inside and it's not bad inside. And the long line is out in the fresh air, too. Mask-wearing is getting better too, and Nijiya even had a cloth one for sale at the checkout, for $8 but it looks like a nice locally made one.
I really did some shopping at H Mart, getting a couple quart jugs of soy sauce, another can of cooking oil, a bunch of a different kind of haw flakes, another bottle of "white lightning" and so on. It came to over $100, and in fact, adding it all up, I spent about $260 today. Pretty soon I'll have all the "preps" I want to keep on hand, though.
And H Mart had two cans of French Market coffee which I got, for $8 when I'm used to paying $5, but who knows, maybe Dai Thanh will keep postponing their re-opening and never really get around to opening again. The city's slowly dying anyway, and this could happen even in what we call good times. Or, because there have been quite a few cases of anti-Asian crime and racism against Asians because to some idiots' way of thinking they brought the virus, maybe Dai Thanh will live on as a Vietnamese-language-only buying service to keep possibly racist whities like me out. I'd not blame 'em.
